DaniLeigh Releases Heartbreaking Single “Dead to Me,” Claims DaBaby’s Instagram Live Fight Was “Very Triggering”. DaniLeigh is putting her music first after a rocky relationship with DaBaby.
DaniLeigh is putting her ex-boyfriend DaBaby’s difficult relationship behind her and focusing on her music career, releasing “Dead to Me” on Wednesday (May 10).
She says in the chorus, “You know you dead to me/ Never kept your word with what you said to me]/ You know you dead to me/ I ain’t got no more time for toxic energy.”
DaniLeigh — born Danielle Leigh Curiel — opened up about parenting, DaBaby, and “Dead to Me” in a new interview with iHeartRadio’s Angie Martinez, which premiered on People. She specifically mentioned her November Instagram Live with the “Rockstar” rapper, which she described as a “really difficult time” in her life.
The former couple were shown having a heated dispute while DaniLeigh nursed their newborn baby, who is now eight months old, in the since-deleted footage. According to Rolling Stone, DaBaby and DaniLeigh spat obscenities, with the latter saying that the rapper hadn’t seen their daughter since she was born and that he was now attempting to force her out of his residence.
DaBaby went back on Instagram Live the next day, and the two continued to bicker about their relationship. The rapper told police on both days that Curiel had assaulted him, according to Rolling Stone and local CBS station WBTV. Curiel was charged with simple assault.
The event was “extremely triggering, really sad,” the 27-year-old star told Martinez. “I wish that hadn’t happened because I don’t want my child to witness it later.” “How I explain the video to my child depends on the type of person she grows up to be,” the “Easy” singer explains.
“I just have one responsibility: to nurture her to be a strong woman.” Curiel added, “She’ll feel how she feels because she’s her own person.” DaniLeigh also stated that getting into that confrontation was “extremely selfish,” and that DaBaby has not apologized. She stated about her ex-boyfriend, “He’s like that.”
“I’ve learnt to appreciate myself so much more after the termination of the relationship,” she stated. “Because I felt like I truly loved him and was simply giving him everything… I didn’t even think about my job.”
DaniLeigh’s “Dead to Me” may be heard below. The song will be included on her next EP, My Side, which has yet to be released.
