It’s possible that David Kushner isn’t yet a well-known name, but that will change quickly. His baritone vocals and wistful indie-folk music, which has striking resemblances to Hozier, The Lumineers, and Bon Iver, have been energising TikTok For You Pages for months. So much so that on the day of each song’s release on a streaming platform, I was an inadvertent groupie because I already knew the chorus of the popular tunes “Mr. Forgettable,” “Miserable Man,” and Kushner’s most recent single, “Daylight,” which is out today. David Kushner has quickly attracted a devoted following for the rich and compelling soundscape of the musical world he has built, garnering over half a billion global lifetime streams in less than a year.
The long-awaited debut of his song “Daylight,” which was produced by Rob Kirwan and features a music video with a forest setting that was created by Luke Shaw and Landon Juern, has been announced. In the reflective song, Kushner examines the paradox of impulses that could be destructive to you. Regarding the project, Kushner said that the line “Oh I love it and I hate it at the same time, you and I drink the poison from the same vine” perfectly captures the idea.
Kushner, a native of the Chicago suburbs who now calls Los Angeles home, gained notoriety last year with the release of his debut EP, Footprints I Found, which contained the singles “Miserable Man” and “Mr. Forgettable,” both of which became international hits. Listeners all over the world were instantly moved by his emotionally packed tunes. In the upcoming weeks, Kushner has a number of overseas dates scheduled while he is currently on the road.
