“Depend on You” is Jimmy Stanfield’s debut track, and his initiation in the music biz is filled with elements of blues, and soul, with a modern spin on it as well. Jimmy truly knows how to capture the listener’s attention with his captivating voice. There is a sense of pain, anguish, and beauty all together present in the tone of his voice. The blues answer to those in torment, and Jimmy’s delightful voice has a sway that goes excellently with the genre.
The guitar work on “Depend on You” is just phenomenal. With a slightly overdriven tone, the solo will send vibrations through your soul. The song has some unique chord changes, especially after the main guitar solo, and it is truly refreshing to hear. For some reason, American rockers The Black Keys (who play the blues as well) have a sound that reminded me of Jimmy’s track. And he truly has made a classic that I’m sure if the masses heard it more, The Black Keys themselves will also appreciate! The percussion and bass guitar sequences are absolutely groovy and in a mood.
The acoustic guitar in the background and the frequent “one-strum” type style of the electric guitar chord in the verse sections are such a vibe, man! There are some fillers here in there where bluesy licks are played on the guitar, and in combination with Jimmy’s voice, it sounds truly magical! If you’re in the mood for something sentimental, for those late nights where you just want to wander off while staring at the moon, then this track fits that mood perfectly.
