Wild Horse returns with another bold statement in 2025, dropping their third new single of the year, “Don’t Wait,” on September 3rd. The East Sussex outfit, fronted by brothers Jack and Henry Baldwin, longtime collaborator Ed Barnes, and recent addition Jade Snowdon on keys and violin, has built a reputation for electrifying indie pop with a funk-rock edge, pulling together hip-hop grooves and the swagger of 60s/70s Brit Rock. Their infectious hooks have earned them a loyal following, glowing press, and constant BBC Introducing support, with their last dozen releases all named Track of the Day. This time, Jack Baldwin teams up with acclaimed Norwegian artist Matilda Gressberg to create an emotionally sensitive and radiant soundscape.
“Don’t Wait” wastes no time setting the mood with low, vivid guitar strums and chiming music that keep the air brooding. The beat rumbles underneath as the high vocals soar with a depressing undertone. Baldwin sings he doesn’t care anymore the way he used to and thinks it’s time for him to go. By the bridge, we find a window to the lovers’ story as he admits he’s exhausted by all the “midnight fighting” and declares he won’t be coming back, in pained and liberating delivery.
Other singles are included in the package, all of which reinforce Wild Horse’s versatility and reveal a different shade of the voice and the different stories it has lived. In contrast to the newest single, “Overthinking” leans into tenderness, its slow instrumental build framing a plea to work things out. Sweet harmonies hum in the background, cushioning Baldwin’s passionate delivery. Another single, “Read My Mind (Vibes Song)” turns up the energy and launches with irresistible harmonies, chiming guitars, and playful, tripping drums. The best of Wild Horse is here. Pushing up the adrenaline rush, he sings, “You are the only reason why I get so high, you got me vibing, vibing.”
Altogether, Wild Horse keeps throwing us new bops just to keep proving that they are not just prolific but consistently inspired with urgent, heartfelt music that will get stuck in your head. Listen to “Don’t Wait” on Spotify.
