Nashville indie pop-rock outfit RightHandWave has dropped their latest single, “Rebound Girl,” on August 26, 2025, and it’s a buoyant slice of PowerPop that wears its influences proudly in its own distinctive character. Taking unexpected lyrical inspiration from the 2007 Ryan Gosling film Lars & the Real Girl, the track digs into the vulnerable side of love and emotional renewal while packaging it all in a bright, infectious sound. Co-produced with Ken Daniels at Daniels Nashville Studio, the recording brings soaring and soulful harmonies to elevate the song’s soulful resonance.
From the very first beat, “Rebound Girl” bursts with sharp drum hits and thumping rhythm, immediately setting an energetic tone. Guitars shimmer and grind in layers to balance grit with melody, while the bass locks in to keep everything rolling forward. The production keeps every fold of the soundscape alive with bustling instrumentation. Instead, it’s a carefully constructed wall of sound that recalls the polish of Jellyfish and the sunshine flair of The Beach Boys, sprinkled with a touch of Cheap Trick swagger.
With his carefree, high voice, the singer balances the jubilance as he threads soul and ease into his delivery, and trails his voice airily over the instrumentation. Sealing the deal with the communal feel, lush harmonies pile in alongside him to create an anthemic and intimate layered chorus. The refraining chorus goes like, “He’s found a rebound girl, he’s bouncing back,” with that bittersweet lightheartedness and emotional undercurrent, showcasing the playfulness the tender concept is dealt with.
RightHandWave gets behind indie pop-rock with thoughtful and unshakably catchy music. “Rebound Girl” is as much a nod to classic PowerPop lineage as it is a fresh, modern anthem. Check it out on Spotify.
