Electronic Scream is a thunderous debut from Queens-based artist and film composer Edward Grant, who dives headfirst into the dark, neon-soaked underworld of synthwave with cinematic precision. Released on April 10, 2025, this solo project reveals Grantโs knack for fusing ambient electronica, retro-futuristic beats, and dramatic storytelling into an unboxable sound. Influenced by icons like Daft Punk and Timecop1983 and inspired by cult classics such as Bladerunner and Akira, Grant conjures up a nostalgic and forward-charging atmosphere which visualizes a sci-fi cityscape roaring past your window at midnight.
The opener, โThe Signal,โ begins with an eerie crawl before evolving into a radiant synth-laced crescendo. Grant builds tension with slowly rising pulses until the track breaks open like headlights through fogโan anthem for the night drive with soaring textures and pounding rhythm. Further into the album, โMasqueradeโ stands out with its buzzing undercurrent and noir-like atmosphere, casting shadows with every beat. It hums with suspense, its gritty electric buzz layered under shimmering, restrained synths that feel like theyโre watching you from across the dance floor.
Then thereโs โCyber Soul,โ a moody climax that melds haunting choral elements with a gritty guitar grind, like a gospel chant resurrected for a digital age. The operatic voices morph from ghostly whispers to full-blown chants, while the drums and synths keep everything grounded in raw, mechanical heartbeats.
Grantโs experience as a film composer bleeds through each track as every beat feels like part of a score to a movie youโre living. Turns out Electronic Scream is Edward Grantโs first solo release, when it pulses with the confidence of a seasoned storyteller. Stay tuned to this one for further hits like these.
