Even The Queen by Michelle Malone: Review
Michelle Malone was raised in a musical household since both her mother and grandmother were singers. The Atlanta singer-songwriter has done it all in her career, having many successful albums and collaborations as well as running her own recording label. This year, she greets us with a beautiful pop-rock tune, “Even The Queen,” her new single.
Quotable lyrics:
“You took your moonshot with a paper kite
It didn’t turn out like you thought it might
But, oh, the places and the people you’ve seen
Even the queen
Even the queen has dreams
You won’t want to miss out on this tune.”
1977, the new album on which the song appears, has a 1970s theme. She was influenced by the music of Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and Fleetwood Mac. The beat is smooth and crisp, with a bright vocal counterpoint on top. It was a journey back in time, to when she first began learning guitar and to herself at the start of her musical adventure. That explains the warmth, comfort, and nostalgia that saturate the soundscape of “Even The Queen.” This might be viewed as Malone’s heartfelt and endearing message to her younger self as well as her listeners. Life is not simple for any of us, and we all face personal challenges. It may be imperfect, but we will learn to navigate it in our own unique way. Don’t be so harsh on yourself if you stumble and fall now and then; it is, without a doubt, difficult and may even feel impossible at times.
