Long before his upcoming collaboration “Orbit” arrives, New York-based producer and artist Rayrick had already laid the groundwork for his musical identity with Experiment, a genre-hopping EP that remains a fascinating snapshot of his creative evolution. Originally released in 2022, the project showcases Rayrick’s ability to blend melodic dubstep, future bass, tropical house, chillstep, and house music into something that feels less like a collection of tracks and more like an emotional journey through shifting moods and landscapes.
What makes Experiment stand out is its sense of curiosity. Rather than staying in one lane, Rayrick treats electronic music as a playground, freely exploring different textures and atmospheres while maintaining a strong melodic core. Written, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by himself, the EP highlights both his technical skill and his instinct for storytelling through sound.
The journey begins with “Daybreak,” a fitting opener that immediately immerses listeners in Rayrick’s cinematic world. Shimmering synths float through a spacious soundscape while warm melodies unfold gently across the track. The beats hit with enough punch to keep the momentum alive without disrupting the dreamlike atmosphere. As swelling strings gradually rise through the arrangement, the song feels like watching the first light of morning spill across a city skyline.
Midway through the EP, “Save Me” delivers one of its most emotionally resonant moments. Pulsating synths and steady electronic beats create the backdrop for a delicate vocal performance that captures the lingering denial and sadness of a breakup. The contrast between the song’s warm production and its melancholic lyrical perspective creates a compelling emotional tension that lingers long after the track ends.
Then comes “Too Good To Be True,” which shifts the mood once again. A slow piano introduction sets the stage before a husky male vocal enters, rich with character and vulnerability. His expressive vibrato and soaring delivery inject the song with exhilaration and longing, building toward moments that feel both intimate and uplifting.
Years after its release, Experiment still feels fresh because it embraces exploration over formula. It’s an EP that captures an artist discovering his voice while inviting listeners to lose themselves in the process.
