FRIYAY BEATS – THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!
Regardless of one’s profession, way of life, geographical region, or religious beliefs, everyone has that one common experience and sentiment on Fridays: the relief of having made it through another week.
I know you can’t wait to finish up and be done with your day, so why not give yourself the chance to unwind and explore some fresh releases for the weekend? With the weekend lurking right around the corner, all you have to do is get through today!
I’ll make today’s top 10 music recommendations worth every moment, so scoot closer and let’s dive right into it!
1. Longheads: Longherder
Norfolk-based Longheads play powerful psychedelic music that alters consciousness. The lads, who are now located in South London, are known for their mind-bending jams, fuzz-fueled performances, and high-intensity psychedelic shows. Their distinctive style combines elements of modern psych and kraut rock with powerful guitar riffs and blazing solos reminiscent of metal and rock from the 1970s.
They plan to release their most recent track, “Longherder,” on August 19 off their upcoming second EP, “Mars Doesn’t Feel Like Home Anymore.” On August 25, there will be a big event in London to mark the album’s release.
The Longheads cordially welcome you to relax and take in “Longherder,” their most recent masterpiece.
2. Isaac Jensen: Talking to You
“Talking to You” is a folk/rock anthem that was written during a time when I felt like I had to tell myself to not give up and keep going. In the song, I literally ask myself the question, “Who do you wanna be before you go? I’m talking to you”. I tried to encapsulate the feelings of insecurity, doubt, and procrastination into a song in the hopes to get myself up and moving again.
3. Knightingale: Gina
The second track from Singaporean garage punks Knightingale’s upcoming EP, Big Wave, Gina, leans more heavily towards their garage rock roots. Big guitars and brash, assured vocals give the song a classic garage rock vibe with hints of skate punk and power pop. The band independently produced the song in their studio in Singapore. This is the group’s second release with the US record company Pitch & Prose, which will assist the group in promoting the song starting on August 9.
How are you enjoying the songs so far? Be sure to let me know in the comments!
To relax in the middle of the day, I recommend listening to the following playlist while sipping on your favorite beverage or blending in some greens to punch in something healthy. I’d say you’ve earned it!
4. Siobhan Sainte: DIDN’T LIE
I just released my first track in a few years! My previous tracks “burn it down” & “midnight” gained a lot of attention being featured on Netflix Series White lines, Marvel Series Cloak and Dagger and Victoria secret advertising! This is my first ever Dark Dystopian Love song (and love song in general) very cinematic, dark, edgy sensual alternative pop. I’m very independent and just looking for people who actually enjoy well made music in my genre. Thank you ♥️
5. Animizmo: Escarcéu Azul
The instrumental band Animizmo has released a new track, “Escarcéu Azul,” or “Blue Uproar,” the first with the new lineup that includes bassist Pedro Camargo. It was completely written and recorded during the pandemic, a time when music-making also served as a form of “palliative therapy.” We think that it partially captures the pain of this stage as well as the delight of ultimately emerging from it. Technically speaking, it’s a song that we wrote with fresh ideas in mind, primarily jazz and fusion, which are genres to which we’ve had a stronger connection lately. But in addition to them, we also feel more at ease incorporating even more of the heavy components that have been a part of the band’s sound from the start. Gilson Fukushima (Alexandre Nero, André Abujamra) produced and mixed it. The majority of sites now provide “Escarcéu Azul,” and a music video for it is now in creation.
6. JOSHUA MARTIN: DULCE AMOR (SOULMATES REMIX)
Dulce Amor was written in 2020 when my husband and I contracted COVID and it was my first official release. To celebrate our 12 year anniversary, I recorded a remix of the song with a new arrangement. It was meant for personal use only but he loved it so much he told me to release it.
7. Vox Somnia: Sins
Vox Somnia is a Toronto-based art rock duo that incorporates Goth, Shoegaze, Dreampop, and Ambient Pop influences. The newest single by Vox Somnia, an Art Rock duo, is called “Sins.” The lead vocalist, Anna Navrota, was born in Kyiv around the time of the Chernobyl accident, and the song tackles her personal experience as well as the generational trauma of growing up in Soviet-era Ukraine. These recollections, together with the terrible but timely events related to the local atmosphere at the time, led to thought and introspection, which led to the pair’s most recent release.
In 2018, the duo released “The Broken Light EP,” their debut album, to a sea of enthusiastic reviews. Their live act established them as a regular name on the Toronto festival circuit during that time, and in 2019 they even advanced to the semifinals of Indie Week at The Mod Club. They have also had their work featured on CBC Radio and a nationally syndicated true crime podcast. They are currently working on their second album after a little creative break, beginning with the release of their brand-new single, Sins.
Ah, Fri-nally! If you’ve loved these previous listens, wait for the next 3 hits that’ll have you grooving in no time!
8. Soft as Snow: Tremor
Oda Egjar Starheim and ystein Monsen, two artists and producers, came up with the song “Soft as Snow.” Their work is a fusion of pop and club culture that has been deconstructed, creating “electronic music on the verge of collapse” (The Wire). The pair is heavily involved in the project’s visual output due to their backgrounds in performance and video art. Their live shows are visceral and savage, ranging from raucous cacophony to haunting beauty to burned-out party.
Bit Rot, the second album by Soft as Snow, was just published on the progressive label Infinite Machine in Mexico City. It was mixed by Ville Haimala of Amnesia Scanner, and it perfectly represents the friction of modern life, where clean digital surfaces are constantly at odds with untidy actual realities. Ecstatic trance and opulent synthwave disintegrate into nightmare-inducing cyberscapes.
9. JAY-T: ONE DECISION
first of all my name is Jason (JAY-T) I have been involved in making music on and off for over 15 years. i enjoy writing lyrics for songs and have done for the most part of those 15+ years.
This release is based on an event that happened to me. it highlights the things that can happen if you make the wrong decision due to drinking or just in general. these decisions effect not only the person that is going through with the activity they have decided to be apart of, but how it effects people waiting for then at home. my friends were young and stupid and what they did almost cost them their lives and for some it does end in tragedy. i would like more people to stoop and think about what they are doing and how it may effect their future or the lives of others around them.
finally thank you for taking the time to listen to my release I hope you enjoyed it. I am currently working on an album so will have more releases in the future.
10. Slo Cheetah: White Knights
Slo Cheetah, who have origins in the musically diverse Lancashire region, have performed in prestigious Manchester venues like Night & Day Café, backed revered Warrington acts like Crawlers and The K’s, and most recently appeared on BBC Introducing Merseyside with their previous CD “Roam.” The new track “White Knights,” which the three northern monkeys will release on August 5th 2022 accompanied with a mind-blowing music video, is a musical gift from them.
The alternative rock trio plans to make a statement in 2022 after playing a variety of club circuits in the northwest and following the success of frontman Jordan Lee’s cooperation on LEKNA’s recent track “Wide Awake,” which had over 10,000 plays and a spin on BBC Introducing Sussex & Surrey. Despite constantly composing and recording new music over the past year, the band members are at their best when performing live. They have previously collaborated frequently with Scruff of the Neck and performed on stages alongside other local artists like The K’s, Crawlers, and Stanleys. The third track of a vast collection mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios is titled “White Knights.”
The northern lads have a talent for writing head-bopping grooves, soaring sing-along choruses, and thought-provoking lyrics, frequently blurring the lines between multiple genres of music. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu enthusiasts draw inspiration from a wide range of sounds, including Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Foo Fighters. Built on a foundation of playing together since they were just eleven years old, bandmates Jordan, David, and Elliot completely re-engineered themselves despite their own inhibitions, enabling them to step up onto a stage and captivate an audience because they have a passion for music above all else. The three-piece performs with a high level of energy and comedy while maintaining a calm confidence that helps them break down barriers of class and culture.
That concludes it! When you need some uplifting anthems to power you through the weekend again, come back and I’ll always have more in store for you. Until then, may today be the Fridayest of all Fridays, folks!
