Galantis have released a new tune called “1×1.” The tune is short and to-the-point, providing a burst of energy and pleasure as the summer months approach.
Galantis, a Swedish duo, continued their constant and seemingly infinite output as well as large-scale tour and festival engagements in 2022. Starting with a light four to the floor kick, the music immediately ramps up with a short female and male vocal lead before dropping the kick and coming in the addictive vocal hook that makes up the majority of the track. The major top-line is “La da di da dum dum dum a dum, ba da dum dum dum a dum 1 x 1,” which, while comical to read on a screen, gets stuck in one’s brain well before finishing a first listen to the new single.
The duo expressed their cautious excitement about releasing the single at their headline gig at Red Rocks last month via Instagram, but the positive audience response makes the formal release more of a triumph party for the band.
Fans and critics alike often get lost in trying to overthink or over evaluate the contributions of producers and dance music artists, but songs like “1×1” are a great reminder of the PLUR aesthetic that defined so much of the dance music scene over the last decade, and one that Galantis has nailed in their productions.
Galantis knows better than most musicians that not every tune needs to be an introspective voyage into the psyche. Why do so many people go to festival grounds and crowded dance halls month after month? The positive energy, pleasant vibes, and focus on live acts and music that just make people move. The group was also been named as a headliner for Chicago’s Heatwave Festival, which will take place July 16 and 17. They are fresh off recent hits ‘Good Luck’ and ‘What It Feels Like.’ Galantis is busier than ever!
