Mabel and 24kGoldn collaborate on the new single “Overthinking.” According to the celebrity, the song is about “how quickly things can change from thrilling to toxic.”
On her sparkling new track, “Overthinking,” Mabel has linked up with 24kGoldn.
Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry) produced the single in LA, and it’s an escapist yet unflinchingly honest look at what happens when club culture collides with social anxiety. “I can’t feel the heat of the night without you,” Mabel sings in the song. “I can’t feel those butterflies/I’ve been burning all day without you.”
“I’m tired of getting stuck/Wish I could fast forward,” adds 24kGoldn. “Paranoia, I had something spinning in my head,” he raps afterwards.
“Overthinking” is about “how quickly things may shift from thrilling to toxic,” according to Mabel. “Many people with mental health difficulties self-medicate, and I, too, went through a period where I used narcotics to dull my feelings,” she said in a statement. “I hope that everybody who connects with this song understands that there is light after the darkness.”
The British pop diva has previously collaborated with the San Francisco rapper on “Overthinking.” Clean Bandit and the duo previously teamed on the 2020 Top 10 smash “Tick Tock.”
The new tune gives a taste of her impending second album’s darker, more introspective side. The album will also include the recently released singles “Good Luck,” which flawlessly distilled inspirations of house, heartbreak, and female solidarity into wonderfully realized pop, and “Let Them Know,” an unashamed hymn about dressing up with nowhere to go.
Mabel will perform at this year’s LooseFest, which will take place in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on July 30 and 31. “We’re ecstatic to welcome Mabel to the LooseFest 2022 roster!” One of the festival’s co-founders, Dean Saunders, remarked earlier this month. “We love her new song “Good Luck” and can’t wait for her to join us on one of the most anticipated weekends of the summer!”
