YME’s latest release Game Boy is a genre-hopping adrenaline rush that reclaims pop-electronica with unapologetic fire. Dropped in three distinct versions, Radio, Drum & Bass, and Trance, the single shows off YME’s fearless versatility. The Radio version of “Game Boy” hooks you from the jump. It kicks off with a nostalgic buzz straight out of a vintage handheld console before launching into a glitzy EDM dreamscape.
The synths bounce, the beat thumps, and YME’s vocals land with a commanding gravity that slices through the energy like a protest in a neon-lit club. Her voice is thick, rich, and defiant, almost daring you to try and box her in. The repetitive chorus, “I’m not your Game Boy, not a play toy, not a doll” reminds that femininity isn’t fragility, and identity isn’t a joystick to be manipulated.
The Drum & Bass remix by Anubys explodes the track into a different realm entirely. It’s faster, louder, more chaotic in the best way. The synths get sharper, the basslines rumble with muscle, and the original vocals are partially submerged in waves of distortion and shimmer. It belongs in a pitch-dark rave where the only rule is to move.
Then comes the Trance mix, crafted by Early Cat, which takes a more meditative route. Pulsing synths build gradually, lifting the listener into a dreamlike state before the beat drops with polished force. YME’s vocals glide in like vapor, airy and soothing, adding a celestial layer to the track’s club-ready foundation.
With Game Boy, YME becomes a shape-shifter, playing in multiple sandboxes while owning her power. Check it out on Spotify, switching up the versions as per your mood and situation.
