95 Bulls’ new single “Gin Shot” is a total riot, loud, reckless, and completely unapologetic. From the moment those sharp, high guitar lines pierce the silence, you know you’re in for a punchy ride. Then the drums sneak in from the background, the guitars double down, and suddenly you’re thrown headfirst into a full-throttle garage-punk frenzy. The vocals are hazy, unbothered, echoing like a ghost in a grimy warehouse, before suddenly shrieking into a manic, high-pitched wail that sounds like chaos getting kicked in the face, in the best way possible.
Recorded at Holy Fang Studios and produced by Oliver Ignatius, “Gin Shot” is the first taste of their upcoming LP, Canadian Nightclub, and it feels like a raw nerve being plucked again and again. There’s something unhinged but calculated about how the song builds and collapses in waves—like it knows exactly how to rile you up and spit you out. It’s aggressive, anxious, and drenched in that don’t-give-a-damn Brooklyn energy, channeling influences like Osees and Lost Sounds but giving it their own twisted flavor.
Post-lineup shakeup, 95 Bulls are clearly leaning into the chaos with more confidence than ever with “Gin Shot.” The production is tight but raw enough to let the grit shine through, and the neo-psych edges twist the garage-punk sound into something even more thrilling.
If “Gin Shot” is the warning shot, then Canadian Nightclub is probably a full-on riot. 95 Bulls sound like they’re daring it to hit back.
