Goat Simulator by Frode Fivel: Review

Norwegian indie folk band Frode fivel sets the tone of their album ‘All You See’ with the opening single ‘Goat Simulator’. This ephemeral tune takes the listener on a surreal journey with its cryptic lyrics and spiraling melodies.
Starting off with a piano backed by a sustained backdrop, the song follows a sore, minimalist indie folk style. Knut Øyvind Olsen’s keyboard may be minimalist in playing style in this song, but it is very expressive as it lays down the main melody for the vocals to follow. The lyrics of the song are straightforwardly cryptic and filled with vivid imagery. As the vocals take the mic, the expressions are accentuated by the piano notes and the sustained backdrop combined with the airy vocals gives the song an ethereal vibe. As the song progress, it gives the listeners a visualization with its vivid imagery of the lyrics and when you combine everything that’s going on in the song, the feeling is surreal.
Cryptic and surreal with a melancholic undertone, this piano-driven song stirs up emotions you didn’t even know you had. Not that I’m encouraging the use of drugs but don’t listen to this on drugs. It’s already an otherworldly adventure on its own. Or do it at your own risk. It’s your life, I don’t need to tell you what to do. While you’re at it, do check out the full album. We’re gonna put the whole album below so you can do just that. You can thank me later.
