CMON CMON’s latest EP, Headwind, is a lush, cinematic, and anthemic whirlwind, warm yet haunted, full of beautifully layered rock textures that make you feel like you’re standing in the middle of a storm, arms wide open. The Belgian trio has always thrived on nostalgia-fueled storytelling, but this time, they push their boundaries with sweeping melodies, atmospheric depth, and production that glows like city lights through the rain.
Opener “Turn Off The Lights” wastes no time, kicking in with a rumbling drum roll before waves of fuzzy, melodic guitars crash in, drenching the track in grunge-soaked warmth. The singer’s husky yet effortless voice floats over the storm, balancing grit with soothing ease, like a deep breath in the middle of chaos.
Then there’s “All The Other Kids”, a shimmering indie-rock anthem. The song opens with soft piano notes, gently guiding you into its immersive world before the rhythmic percussion and glistening guitar ease in like a slow sunrise. The lyrics reflect on youth, self-doubt, and the quiet realization that growing up doesn’t mean losing yourself. The chorus, simple yet profound, seeps into your bloodstream with the line, “Headwind is blowing / Hard rain will fall”.
But the real gut punch comes with “Neon Light”, the EP’s closer and emotional knockout. The drums hit hard, anchoring a dreamy, clouded soundscape where the singer’s voice drifts like a ghost through city streets. He sings with resolve that, with the neon lights, “There’s a way I can find you back”, capturing that eerie space between regret and resolve.
