Hindsight by Kaiyah Mercedes: Album Review
“Hindsight” by Kaiyah Mercedes was released on November 13, 2022. It was her debut album with 12 tracks, and even more of the album discusses reminiscing, taking lessons from it, and understanding things that have been experienced. After her heartbreaking breakup, she used her writing and music to express her pain and to take the listeners on a journey of self- love.
Kauyah Mercedes is a 16-year-old singer and songwriter; she taught herself how to play the guitar and piano. The songs on this album tell a story with their sounds: instruments, synths, bass, keyboards, and more.
The first song is “Hindsight.” It begins with Kaiyah Mercedes’ dreamy vocal, then transitions into a playful song that is also emotional and nostalgic, and when the instruments enter, it gives a complete sound, with the bass and drums complementing the entire song. The song “Something Real” is a mellow song that gets going with the piano tune and vocal. And the lyrics will take you back to your first heartbreak and relationship. The soothing sound of her vocals and piano completes the song.
After being diagnosed with autism and ADHD at the age of 15, Kaiyah found solace in songwriting as a form of therapy and a means of creatively understanding her emotions and feelings. Kaya said in an interview that “getting diagnosed didn’t make me a different person, but it did help me understand who I am, and I feel more comfortable being myself now,” said the patient. Also, the full-length album is very mellow and peaceful and will help the listeners heal from hardships.
