Humanity by Paul Roux: Review
Montpellier, France-based composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Paul Roux is a self-taught masterful mixer of progressive house. His production skills are exposed in his most recent EP Humanity, featuring unsettling electronica.
His most recent album, also titled Humanity, begins with the song โHumanity,โ which fuses melancholic instruments perfectly with a soulful beat. There is a mellow haunting feeling creeping up your spine as you proceed to listen to the trackโs undeniably calm flow of rhythm. It is a bold take on an eerie and somber soundscape, expertly showcased by Roux. Inspired by the outdoors, โAdventureโ kicks off with lightly treaded percussions and a classic house rhythm that will turn on your mood for the beachside party. Leave behind your stress and enjoy a carefree evening over your favorite tropical drink as the drums and the music pulsate through you. The 6-minute 32-second timed โForevermoreโ is another delight that keeps the hook on you felt in Rouxโs previous track. However, there is a revolutionary pickup, motivating you to keep it going. After 2 minutes of maintaining its beat, it starts taking off a more energetic role, and I can only imagine the DJ having the time of his life! And then, taking you by surprise, the music will fade to reveal Jacques Chiracโs speech against global warming. The closing track โBlue Linesโ opens with a foot-tapping rhythm, progressing into melodies over light synth waves. The pitch rises with every passing second of a raunchier beat. There is not-so-overdone distortion given the years of experience Paul Roux has had in the musical realm.
