If It Lasts by Joe Kenney (feat. Sterling Duns): Review
You’re not ready to go breathless with Joe Kenney yet if you’re not at the edge of your seat for this one! Featuring Sterling Duns, he approaches “If It Lasts” with a unique fusion of rock, soul, and jazz in a euphony, easy lyricism, followed by the expressive vocals of Elle Gyandoh and Murphy Bug, Carter Fox on the bass and slamming guitar work from Sam Cooper.
Despite so many people involved, everyone gets their opportunity to shine, and as a result, the song’s depth and complexity are enhanced.
The song begins with a sophisticated rhyme and an easy verse flow that slips in and out of the soundscape. Its soothing synth keys flutter around in a sea of guitar basslines and the raindrops fall like lines of acoustic strings in the background. Imagine immersing yourself in a pool of glistening navy blue tunes, while the singers weave together an elixir of a lovely tone that makes your heart ache and yearn with compassion. It has the grandeur and majesty of a starry sky, a lovely forest, or enthralling storytelling.
In a word, “If It Lasts” is silky and decadent, and full of soul. It rises and falls without a single moment of monotone, making its way into the listener’s heart in a concoction of pure beauty.
