“In This World” finds Matt DeAngelis zooming out from the personal and aiming straight for something bigger: what it means to live together, right now, in all this noise and chaos. Based out of Turnersville, New Jersey, DeAngelis wears a lot of hats—singer, pianist, keyboardist—and leads a band that clearly knows how to breathe together. Having played as a unit for years, you can trust how he lets the song feel organic. You can hear David Bowie, Cat Stevens, and Gentle Giant linger in the background, but they’re absorbed, shaping a reflective, warm, and ambitious sound.
Musically, the track leans into a jazz-rock pulse set in a rolling 12/8 time, which gives it a gentle sway instead of a straight-line drive. It opens with soft, flourishing piano lines. A light, trickling beat settles underneath, unhurried and patient. DeAngelis’ voice enters high and expressive, soaring without straining, carrying hope even when the message turns heavy. As the song unfolds, backing vocals rise behind him like a supportive chorus, adding lift and emotional depth rather than crowding the lead.
The rhythm section keeps things alive in subtle ways—drums rustle, tick, and tap with a jazzy looseness, while the bass stays grounded and reassuring. Meanwhile, the guitar slips in with shimmering melodic licks, filling the spaces between piano phrases with taste.
“In This World” circles around unity, choice, and the shared responsibility of being human. The repeated line, “Everybody knows what it means to live in this world,” challenges us simply. Matt DeAngelis offers a reminder that kindness, belief, and connection are still choices we get to make—every single day.
