Last Night Was a Dream by Paul Claxton: Review
Paul Claxton’s ‘Last Night Was a Dream’ is like stepping into a musical time machine that returns you to the heyday of rock and roll. The song immediately transports you back in time with its starting slide guitars. The vocal harmonies and instruments work together to produce a thick, enveloping sound that draws the listener in.
Due to the song’s relaxed tempo, its intricate melody and instrumentation may be fully appreciated. There’s a definite 70s vibe to the song thanks to the warbling organ and acoustic guitar, but it’s given a 21st-century twist by the use of spacey voice effects and inventive sound design. Constantly shifting tempos and textures keep the listener on their toes and interested in the music. The outstanding musicianship shown by Claxton is what really makes ‘Last Night Was a Dream’ distinct. This song is a demonstration of his abilities as a composer and singer as he nails the classic rock sound of the 1970s and 1980s. A pleasant surprise is the bluegrass segment at the conclusion, which demonstrates Claxton’s variety and ingenuity. The lyrics enhance the song’s wistful, melancholy mood. The narrator creates an atmosphere of nostalgia and desire by repeatedly saying, ‘Last Night Was a Dream’ as if desperately attempting to cling on to a memory. In the third stanza, the ethereal mood created by the background singers and jangly guitar strums makes it seem like you’re in a dream inside a dream.
The artist has created a beautifully crafted song that captures the essence of classic rock while adding a fresh and innovative twist that will undoubtedly stand the test of time.
