Les Montagnes Russ by The Pink Crows: Review
The Paris electro-pop duo opens their new album Rare Birds with a sonic rollercoaster with an aptly titled song, Les Montagnes Russ. This track is followed by 12 other equally exciting songs.
The Pink Crows take the nostalgic sound of funk and disco from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and blend it with a modern electro-pop that makes your head bop without you even noticing. The four-on-the-floor beat and the funky bass are so infectious you will start grooving with the song without knowing and soon find yourself singing along with the hook. The song starts with a futuristic-sounding synthesizer that is stacked with a funky bass line. The groove of the bass and drums over the airy pad is accompanied by Hanna Hågglund’s angelic voice to build it up to the infectiously catchy hook. The song is full of little surprises in every section they reveal themselves one by one each time you hear the song.
Mostly in French with some parts in English, this dance track sings about the feelings of love– the highs, the lows, the panics, the excitements. Life truly is like a rollercoaster. The band has also released a music video for the song where they embark on a journey through space. They party on their way to a disco ball planet and make a few stops to pick up aliens from other planets to join the party. Once you hear the song, you too will surely join them and dance along.
Quotable Lyrics:
“Life is like a rollercoaster rollercoaster
I’m gonna ride you ‘til the end”
“On va en haut et en bas et on tourne sur nous-mêmes
Toujours plus vite et plus fort
On s’accroche parce qu’on s’aime
Les montagnes russes”
