Little things by Martijn Bakker Band: Review
“Little things” is a captivating pop/soul song with elements of jazz. Martijn Bakker Band creates a magical melody through evocative vocals and rhythms. It’s got a positive vibe about it and is the essence of the mix. Once you hear Martijn’s clean voice intertwine with each instrumental bit, you’ll be under a pleasant spell of music and lyrics.
You can tell a song is going to be stellar just from its introduction. Thus, when “Little things” began, a resonant piece played out and I was immediately hooked. A muted guitar and groovy drums kept us company, and eventually, the brass section entered. This is when the thrill of jazz and big band surfaced, and the song heightened its appeal. In addition to that, keeping all of this excitement together is Martijn’s soulful voice. His technique blends excellently with each melody of “Little things” and the nature of the track fits perfectly in his voice. Aside from that, the track’s conclusion has a nod to South African chants, where a beautiful choir section is present. It sounds pretty heavenly, almost like the entire song was an ascent to the upper echelons of music, and finally, when the choir hit we reached melodic ecstasy.
Martijn Bakker Band is definitely going places with their music, and I can’t wait to hear more of it. “Little things” is available for streaming, so please give this stunning track a spin!
