The trio NXCK has just released their EP, LIVE FAST DIE SLOW. Released this August 23, this powerful and energetic collection of punk rock songs gets behind the spirit of youth and gets us nostalgic.
LIVE FAST DIE SLOW opens with the high-energy track “The Party Never Ends.” The sound of the cassette opening takes us into the enjoyable life once lived with satisfying guitars riffing into hard-hitting drums. But Nick Bagrow has the signature punk edge in his voice, perfect for the youthful thrill of partying too hard.
“Sunkissed Skies” opens with a huge flurry of driving riffs and steady drums, only for the singer to break it up with his engaging, commanding voice with which he relishes the carefree days of summer and its simple joys.
“MySpace” is a thought-provoking track that explores the negative effects of social media. The song’s lyrics are critical of the way social media destroys our mental health. “She” comes next as a catchy and upbeat song about infatuation with this intoxicating girl he saw at a house party. Nick sings, “She’s so cool, I want to be more than friends.”
LIVE FAST DIE SLOW comes to a tragic end with “Title Track.” With heavy, acoustic guitar strumming, Nick sings slowly with a suspended defeat in his voice. Myah Mayhew’s ethereal voice comes through, bringing a soft sensationalism to the song as she sings the refrain, “We die slow.”
The last track concluding with tape spinning, LIVE FAST DIE SLOW, becomes a souvenir of a time well spent but long gone.
