Luca di Luzio releases captivating new song ‘Fishing in Paradise’

‘Never Give Up’, the latest album from Italian guitarist Luca di Luzio, adds a Mediterranean twist to funk, jazz, and blues. Graduate of the Conservatorio di Musica Frescobaldi with a degree in jazz guitar, di Luzio exhibits his charisma with an all-star band that includes trumpet great Randy Brecker, keyboardist George Whitty, bassist Alain Caron, drummer Rodney Holmes, and percussionist Steve Thornton.
The group’s diverse range of styles is brought together by di Luzio’s guitar-heavy compositional voice. A confident and laid-back interpretation of lyrical, contemporary jazz is presented thanks to the warm, punchy sound of Brecker’s classic jazz archtop, hard-driving funk/rock drumming, Brecker’s strong trumpet tone, a wide range of keyboard and synth textures, and bubbling percussion grooves.
Syncopated horn lines, soft finger-plucked nylon guitars, and acoustic piano sounds are layered over upbeat live performances on George Whitty’s production. ‘Never Give Up’ is an album of songs that, almost programmatically, tell the stories of di Luzio’s life.
The guitarist’s songs ‘A14’, ‘Second Life’, and ‘The Genius’ are all about his experiences starting over in a nice city at the age of 40 and the difficulties he had to overcome. ‘Fishing In Paradise’ and ‘The Genius’ are odes to two friends he lost over the years.
