On her sparkling new track, โOverthinking,โ Mabel has linked up with 24kGoldn.
Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry) produced the single in LA, and itโs an escapist yet unflinchingly honest look at what happens when club culture collides with social anxiety. โI canโt feel the heat of the night without you,โ Mabel sings in the song. โI canโt feel those butterflies/Iโve been burning all day without you.โ
โIโm tired of getting stuck/Wish I could fast forward,โ adds 24kGoldn. โParanoia, I had something spinning in my head,โ he raps afterwards.
โOverthinkingโ is about โhow quickly things may shift from thrilling to toxic,โ according to Mabel. โMany people with mental health difficulties self-medicate, and I, too, went through a period where I used narcotics to dull my feelings,โ she said in a statement. โI hope that everybody who connects with this song understands that there is light after the darkness.โ
The British pop diva has previously collaborated with the San Francisco rapper on โOverthinking.โ Clean Bandit and the duo previously teamed on the 2020 Top 10 smash โTick Tock.โ
The new tune gives a taste of her impending second albumโs darker, more introspective side. The album will also include the recently released singles โGood Luck,โ which flawlessly distilled inspirations of house, heartbreak, and female solidarity into wonderfully realized pop, and โLet Them Know,โ an unashamed hymn about dressing up with nowhere to go.
