Mad Meg drops groovy new song ‘Waiters’
A humorous, grimy, and dark song about being born too late is ‘Waiters’. It draws inspiration from Ilya’s work in the hospitality sector, which employs lots of aspiring artists. The song discusses the need to give in to the new time period and its new laws. Ilya, who has experienced addiction recovery firsthand, compares giving up one’s desire to create art to giving up alcohol in the song.
The song’s lyrics are initially illustrated literally in the video, but it quickly transitions into a visual stream of consciousness that transports the audience to new realities with each beat. This cartoon features the creator as well as an animated version of Ilya Popenko in the form of a cat. A PO-2 cement block fence, another recurring motif in Katya’s work, can be seen in this video. There were countless examples of this type of concrete wall in the USSR, and there are still plenty of them today.
