Zachary Mason takes a playful trip through the stars with “Man Of The Universe,” a space-rock adventure that blends psychedelic touches with the pulpy charm of old-school science fiction. The Guildford-based artist has been making music since 2021, building hundreds of demos across different genres, and this single marks a particularly exciting collaboration with legendary UK producer Stuart Epps. After Mason sent Epps three demos in June 2026, Epps chose to produce this one, contributing drums, bass, organ, backing vocals, and studio production. With a history of working with artists including Led Zeppelin, Oasis, Elton John, George Harrison, and Robbie Williams, Epps brings plenty of musical pedigree to this cosmic escapade.
“Man Of The Universe” begins with a shimmery guitar melody before thick drums come thumping in, slow and deliberate. Mason’s gentle, high voice keeps the delivery relaxed, creating an amusing contrast with the larger-than-life hero at the centre of the story. His charismatic, calm narration makes the character feel almost effortlessly confident.
And what a character he is. The lyrics send him flying from star to star, encountering aliens, space pirates, scorching lasers, powerful shields, and a formidable Titan fight. He knows every corner of the universe and seems to have admirers waiting wherever he lands, giving the song the wonderfully exaggerated swagger of a vintage pulp sci-fi cover brought to life.
The psychedelic space-rock backdrop gives all this cosmic chaos room to sparkle, while the recurring refrain keeps the adventure grounded in its central character. There is no need to take the story too seriously. At the end of the day, “Man Of The Universe” is a colourful, good-natured blast from the imagination, pairing retro science-fiction fantasy with a relaxed rock groove and making the universe feel like one enormous playground.
