Meiko Releases โGood Love,โ a Soothing, Romantic Single. Album in its entirety Sorry I Missed You is scheduled to be released on July 29.
Meiko, a folk-pop singer-songwriter, has released โGood Love,โ the first track from her upcoming album Sorry I Missed You, on her own today (out July 29). Meiko wrote the song while under pandemic lockdown in Hamburg, Germany, and itโs a stripped-down, minimally produced track about being happily in love.
Meiko says of โGood Loveโ: โMy goal was to write a genuine, happy love song. I initially
recorded it over a very techno-heavy beat that I made on GarageBand, but when I went into a
proper studio, I decided to take the beat out altogether to give it a more organic sound. This
was the first time I played banjo and mandolin on a song, and it was a joyous experience.
Such happy instruments!โ
Sorry I Missed You was co-produced by Meiko and Kai Lindner, a German producer/mixer. โWe had just moved to Hamburg when the epidemic struck,โ Meiko explains. I was completely alone, creating tunes nonstop. However, I was unable to enter a studio to record them because everything was shut down! So, in my bedroom, I took a chance and began learning how to record myself.
She continues, โSlowly, I started coming up with beats and sounds I liked and I figured out the
gear I needed (thanks to YouTube tutorials!) After two years, I had a bunch of songs recorded,
I met Kai Lindner who had a proper studio 45 minutes away, and I went there to re-record my
vocals and guitar, while Kai added some beautiful piano and strings. And badabing โ the
album was finished!โ
Meiko got her start playing gigs in between waitressing shifts at Hollywoodโs infamous Hotel Cafe, when she traveled from Georgia as a teenager to pursue her music career. โGreyโs Anatomyโ instantly noticed her and included her song โReasons to Love Youโ in their season 3 opener, launching her career.
Meiko has since released six critically acclaimed albums and numerous EPs through MySpace/DGC, Concord Music Group, Universal Japan, and independently; toured with Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, KT Tunstall, Jewel, Brett Dennen, Hanson, Joshua Radin, Mat Kearney, and others; and sold a combined 200,000 copies and over 300,000 singles, with over 70 million Spotify streams.
