The7thGatekeeper’s latest EP, No One Was Saved, is a haunting, moody reinvention of songs that once felt familiar but now sound like they’ve clawed their way from the shadows. Recorded entirely in the artist’s so-called “chaos room,” this release evokes power, emotion, and the right amount of distortion. If you thought you knew these songs, think again.
From the very first track, “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” this ghost story comes with whispery, breathy vocals over slow, eerie guitar strums, The7thGatekeeper turns this classic into something aching and desperate. His raspy, low-register voice feels like a longing cry into the night, dripping with intensity, desire, and just a hint of agony.
Then there’s “Overseas,” which takes Jason Isbell’s heartfelt ballad and injects it with a restless energy. Bustling drums and distorted guitars fire up the mood, giving the song a sense of urgency—like something’s just about to unravel.
“Lovesong” is where things take an especially cinematic turn. The moment The7thGatekeeper croons, “Whenever I’m alone with you, you make me feel like I am home again,” you remember like, oh yeah, this was Adele’s song once. it’s impossible to tell whether he’s a hopeless romantic or lurking in the shadows like a creeper. The heavy, creeping guitars kick to make you feel something entirely different, a slow-burn of tension and raw emotion that makes you shiver.
And then there’s “One Monkey,” which builds from an intimidating drum thump into a slow, frustrated explosion. The refrain—“One monkey don’t stop the show”—starts as a murmur and grows into something desperate and defiant, like a mantra for survival.
With No One Was Saved, The7thGatekeeper possesses them, twisting them into something darker, heavier, and wholly his own.
