Normal Tension by Jackson Vincent: Review
Jackson Vincent is an independent artist who paints colorful melodies in his EP ‘Normal Tension’. It’s made up of six brilliant songs in total. The EP starts with ‘Roving Soul’, which is an ambient track with some mellow guitar strumming. The drums in the background are just at the right tempo and fit the song’s mood perfectly. Vincent has shown a true dedication to his craft with the rest of the songs, so let’s dive into the analysis!
The second track ‘Happiest’ follows the same progression of ambient music, and this time Vincent’s voice is a little distorted. The production work is almost cinematic. There are some symphonic elements to it, and the instruments carry a poetic melody. Upon hearing the track ‘The Life’ I felt it was an ode to the journey of existence, and the song truly felt like a good trip according to instrumental quality and vocal prowess. The lyrics from ‘Old Dog’ are quite thought-provoking, especially this part – “It’s as close to death as I can get without losing any breath.” And the track is very peaceful and follows a catchy rhythm too. ‘Youth’ was a joy to listen to, and with each note, I felt the artist’s true expression. This way I appreciated the music even more, as it felt like a personal melody.
The final song ‘Fine/Flame’ felt like the best song and is a wonderful way to exit the EP. The instrumental work was truly magical. The production quality with the guitar’s tone, singer’s voice, piano work, and synth elements was simply remarkable. Overall the EP is an ambient-indie rock masterpiece.
