Object Permanence by Eyas: Review

The complexity, passion, and beauty of love is a never-ending well of creativity for artists. The most recent single released by Eyas, titled “Object Permanence,” sheds light on the kind of love that is accompanied by confusion, anxiety, and heartache.
If you are not yet familiar with Jenna Balderson, she is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Her solo project is called Eyas. Her voice is feathery, soft, and sweet, like cotton candy, and it shines through in this song. The instrumentation explores the grandiosity of the symphonic soul from the 1970s while adding a contemporary psychedelic touch. The song’s tempo is captivating from start to finish, building swiftly with a pounding solo drumming passage in the introduction and fading out with a dreamy, shimmering outro. Charlie Thompson’s soothing bass and Kosta Galanopoulos’ pulsating drumming are recorded independently and then remotely mixed later by Daniel Brooks. It’s clear that the crew worked hard on this one, as the tune is polished and sophisticated, giving listeners a delightful sonic experience. Eyas is as touching as ever in her lyricism, depicting the story of “yearning for someone you know deep-down isn’t able to meet your needs. It discusses loving someone who is avoidant as someone that already struggles with trust to begin with.”
Quotable lyrics:
“Even when the light shines through
I’m afraid that I won’t find you
And when I let you in
Your exit’s always imminent
‘Cause an end is just an end
And until then we’re golden”
