Liposuction’s debut EP, Octopussy, is a vibrant and eclectic collection of indie rock tracks.
Produced by frontwoman Sunday Hunter, also behind songwriting, vocals, guitar, and synthesizer, “Octopussy” showcases much dynamic, exciting music that will get you hooked on every tune. Helping the songs come to life, we have Shannon Kilcoyne on the bass guitar, and James Hurwood on the drums.
The EP features a blend of new and old songs, including the previously released singles “She Hz,” “Boring Residue,” and “Pour Some Dollars On Me.”
Octopussy’s opening title track, “Octopussy,” is a playful and infectious tribute to the joys of ocean life. The song’s catchy melody and energetic rhythm are sure to get listeners moving. “Boring Residue” is hooky and tentative, the lines seductive and suggestive. The refrain, “You will be dripping in a boring residue” will get in your head while the fuzzy, glitchy and gritty riffs will get you dipped in the music.
“Pour Some Dollars On Me” is a fun and upbeat song that celebrates the pursuit of pleasure and indulgence with some strong cymbals splashing. The churning and writhing guitar solo only heightens the vibe. “Hell Hole” bustlingly portrays mental health issues with waling vocals and a wall of sound. “Guns Blazing” is an anthemic feminist song that gets darker and more smug. Ending the thrill is “She Hz” with its high, suspenseful melodies followed by dark, heavy driving riffs over thumping drums. Octopussy is a promising debut EP that showcases Liposuction’s talent and creativity. Enjoy their EP launch party this Aug 30 at Tomcat, Fortitude Valley.
