Outside Looking In by Lizardream: Review
Lizardream is an Israeli band created three years ago by Adi Schmidek Barer. The singer-songwriter met her bandmates on social media, comprising guitarist, harmonica, and melodica player Tomer Blatt, bassist, guitarist, and flutist Boaz Vexler, and drummer Ofer Solomon. The band bonds over their musical influences and personal life experiences, which are brilliantly depicted in their latest single, “Outside Looking In.”
Quotable lyrics:
“The world was wide, and we had no clue
That the river would do what river would do
We meet some friends, and we get along
And they stay with us when we’re missing home
We all accept the offering
That tomorrow would bring what tomorrow would bring.”
The song has a rustic, homey feel that conjures up images of sitting around a campfire jamming with friends who just so happened to have their instruments along. You were enjoying the warmth of the crackling firewood when someone began to play the flute, another began to pick the guitar, and then the passionate, sweet vocal emerged. The cajon and tambourine provide simple, subtle percussion that complements the song without stealing the spotlight from the singer. The band really exemplified the elegance of less is more by producing the song independently after careful consideration. Their raw, genuine approach to this song transports listeners to a carefree, mesmerizing soundscape. “The song tries to capture the profound experience of traveling, while acknowledging that the richest experiences are actually to be found in our day to day lives”, they explained.
