Mick J Clark hits a new stride with Pole Position, that culminates as the moment where years of songwriting graft finally line up just right. With fresh backing from an international publishing house and a UK indie label, Clark steps forward as a seasoned storyteller whose songs are built for connection—whether that’s radio, film, or a late-night listen. Rooted in MOR and country-pop traditions, the album leans into warmth, melody, and emotional clarity, and that works very much in its favor.
The album opens strong with “There’s Nothing Anybody Can Do,” easing listeners in with sparkling, rustling percussion and relaxed acoustic guitars. Clark’s weathered, tender, and reassuring voice comes as if it’s been there before and knows how this goes. Strings slowly swell behind him as he sings for the heartbroken, gently reminding them that love has its seasons and the wheel keeps turning. He sings, “Everybody’s already told you that love can be hard,” with empathy.
From Pole Position, “Why Oh Why” brings an engaging duet. Built on an organic rhythm section and soulful backing vocals, the track pairs Clark with a female vocalist in a emotionally charged exchange. They trade lines, sing in unison, and challenge each other’s ideas about love using seasonal imagery, asking the big question: is love everything, or nothing at all? The chemistry makes the song feel alive and unresolved in the best way.
“This Is Where You Belong” closes the emotional loop with calm assurance. Gentle guitars, light jittery percussion, and Clark’s peaceful delivery create an intimate slow-dance atmosphere. The lyrics glow with devotion and stillness, capturing that rare moment where nothing else needs to be said.
Overall, Pole Position doesn’t rush the finish line—it earns it, mile by mile.
