Popsick by Gloomy June: EP Review
The California based pop-rock band Gloomy June explores the spectrum of human emotions in their debut EP Popsick. The Ep consists of 5 songs and each song stands out as a story of its own.
The aptly named EP does not shy away to boast its nostalgic pop rock colors in its sound. The catchy hooks, punchy in your face drums, the guitar riffs and melodies and Alexi’s pop-rock soaked vocals in combination creates a soundscape that is reminiscent of timeless classic acts like Paramore or Avril but has a color of its own.
The EP is set up in such a way that each song sets you up for the next one and it’s a very enjoyable experience to finish the whole EP in one sitting although the lyrics takes you through stories of self-doubt, anxiety, excitement, self-deprecation, falling in love and let-downs. We definitely agree when the lead singer describes the band’s sound as a soundtrack of a beach party tinnged with melancholy. A sound and stories that appeal to both early 2000s pop-rock fans and Gen-Z alike.
