Promises by In-Flight Movie: Review

The British synth-punk trio In-Flight Movie evokes nostalgia and intrigues their listeners with their trippy new single Promises. The band creates such a borderline psychedelic soundscape with the combination of heavy synths, hard hitting punchy drums, that thick juicy bass and the dynamic vocals it sounds so distinctly British.
The song doesn’t really follow a run-of-the-mill songwriting format. As the song builds up time to time, the soaring vocals pierce through the other instruments from the back sounds so trippy yet energetic, so old school yet very modern. As the “politically inspired” lyrics question the status quo, the band still managed to keep it somewhat vague that it’s still open for interpretation for the listeners frustrated by the futility of a mundane life.
If I were to describe their sound to a new listener, I’d tell them to imagine LCD Soundsystem, The Rolling Stones, The Doors and Radiohead and Joy Division playing as one band and crank it up to the max. It would be somewhat accurate but still an inaccurate description of their distinct sound. And for those who are familiar with their sound, they can’t wait to hear the rest of the album that’s scheduled to release in August.
