Hailing from Canada’s Far North, musician Adrian Sutherland released the song “Precious” to share a powerful message and tease his upcoming album. Much like the Black music from the southern United States, the song is about people fighting for their land and rights.
Adrian, a cultural leader fluent in Omushkegowuk Cree shows his conscientious nature and commitment to activism through his book about growing up in Attawapiskat.
The song itself is a mix of guitar riffs, a strong backbeat, and catchy powwow-style singing. Adrian’s vocals, along with backing vocals get anthemic as he builds to a powerful crescendo at the bridge. With the chorus declaring, “This land is precious,” you are reminded how precious our Earth and our identity are.
Adrian once again collaborated with Grammy-winning Colin Linden, who also brought his part on guitars and vocals. With Linden came Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone to master the song in New Jersey. The single “Precious,” along with another single called “Diamonds,” was co-written with Chris Gormley and Matt Gormley.
While you are jamming to this earworm, “Precious” don’t forget to mark your calendars for March 15, 2024, which is the release date for Adrian Sutherland’s upcoming album, Precious Diamonds. What makes this Nashville-produced album so groundbreaking for our artist is that this is the first time you will hear Adrian singing in his mother tongue, Cree. So stay tuned and stay aware with Adrian Sutherland and his latest single, “Precious.”
