Primroses by Murnau: Review
Murnau – a post-grunge Illinois-based duo that has been at it since their college days. 17 years later, they are here posing for a dark, heavy yet contradictory title – Primroses. It is an effort of what seemed like a never-ending pursuit of finding the right mix of post-rock instrumentals that complements the story behind.
The men of such a rocky ride, Alex Riggen with his powerful vocals and guitar and Nick Pompou on his drums – are ruthless and daunting for every single passing second of the song. They surpassed their own expectation as they wanted to silently amp up the volume and reek of distress. As soon as the lines catch on to your ears, you will find a narrative of demise, of sadness… – poetic loneliness even. To try and interpret it in a few sentences would be the same as making the mistake of missing out on the power of taking your own control. In fact, the talents of Murnau want their listeners to immerse themselves into the lyrical creation, the open-to-interpretation video and the hard rock chords. You can’t help but feel heavy-hearted, as you’re deeply sucked into the disturbing atmosphere of the track. As soon as you pop in your earphones, it will have you restless from its growing drums to its returning pace. The song certainly skyrockets our expectations following its predecessors Overhead and Witness.
