Road Trip by Sambox: EP Review
A soothing wave of melodies overflows in Sambox’s “Road Trip”. It’s a pleasant mixture of downtempo, and electronica with a strong emphasis on ambient. Samuel Pineau is the mind behind Sambox and he’s a French music producer with a creative brain for all kinds of chill music. With the addition of keyboards, synthesizers, minimal guitars, and groovy beats, all three songs involved in his single are worth remembering for any electronica devotee.
“Californian Road” breezes into our senses with atmospheric synth and a vibing beat tagging along. It’s a delightful tune that pertains to jazz and lounge, and according to Sambox, the music of Moby inspired him for this piece specifically. The song has a brilliant instrumental synergy that is equally smooth and moody. It’s an ideal song to hear if you’re ever feeling blue, ‘cause the head-bopping bassline of the song just might cure anyone’s woes. Next up is “Going to the Sun Road”, and here the grandeur of trip-hop makes an entrance. An accordian-esque melody plays all the while deep bass lines form a bond with it. Also, there are a few fillers that pertain to an interesting banjo tune.
The ending track “Kenett River” is a class act at its very core. Taking some inspiration from French house, and elegantly leading with downtempo melodies, this final track makes a solid impression. It has a distinct pattern that befits classic French folk music, such as the accordion’s presence and the eccentric bass lines that tag along.
