Rock (Right Now) by Gemïny: Review
North Carolina recording artist Sage Wesley’s musical persona Gemïny’s latest single Rock (Right Now) is a fresh hit of nostalgic synthwave sounds blended with smooth RnB vocals to make you groove.
The song catches your attention from the get-go with its airy pads and a synth melody building up the tension. Enter Gemïny’s smooth vocals accompanied by a kick drum it finesses its way into your heart. Throughout the song, he demonstrates excellent control and mastery over his vocal range using several vocal techniques. Switching from a chest voice to a nasal voice and falsetto and going back he makes the transitions seem so effortless.
The composition and arrangement of the song is amazing with elements of synthwave, dance pop, house music, and RnB beautifully blended together to create this energetic piece. The influence of Michael Jackson and Usher is evident in certain vocal parts. The layering of synths with the bass-heavy kick drums is somewhat reminiscent of the early 2000s pop scene but more refined. Speaking of which, the bass of this song is absolutely mindblowing perfectly complementing Gemïny’s soaring vocals and the bright synths. The overall tone of the song has a scintillating aura that cuts through the dark.
