Emerging from the shadowy corners of Bloomington, Indiana, Twice Dark continues carving out a hypnotic niche within the darkwave underground with “Savage Media,” the first single from the upcoming EP Welcome to the Night Show. Led by Josh Kreuzman, the project thrives on atmosphere, like neon reflecting off rain-soaked pavement at 2 a.m.
Drawing from goth rock, industrial, cold wave, EBM, and even flashes of italo disco, Twice Dark creates nostalgic and eerily futuristic music, like stumbling into a forgotten nightclub hidden beneath a crumbling city.
“Savage Media” immediately pulls listeners into its seductive spiral with a pulsating synth melody that slowly builds tension before the beat fully locks in. The percussion hits hard and steadily, pumping with an almost mechanical precision, while a deep bassline hums underneath like distant machinery rattling through concrete walls. There’s something icy yet addictive about the groove — dark enough for introspection, but catchy enough to drag you straight onto the dancefloor whether you planned on it or not.
Kreuzman’s vocal delivery adds another layer to the track’s haunted atmosphere. His muffled, thick baritone drifts through the production with a detached weariness, as he repeats, “It’s in your dreams / It’s everywhere.” His voice melts into the instrumentation, becoming part of the mood itself. That hazy vocal approach works perfectly against the sharp electronic pulse, creating a push-and-pull between emotional numbness and restless movement.
What makes “Savage Media” stand out is how naturally it balances gloom with rhythm. Plenty of darkwave tracks lean so heavily into atmosphere that they forget to move, but Twice Dark understands the power of momentum. The song throbs with life beneath all its shadows, echoing the spirit of Depeche Mode, The Sisters of Mercy, and classic industrial dance acts while still sounding fresh and modern.
If “Savage Media” is any indication, Welcome to the Night Show is shaping up to be a moody, immersive ride through beautifully decayed electronic landscapes — the kind you get lost inside willingly.
