Caligulaโs newest single โSave Me,โ lifted from their freshly revived catalogue as part of their Tricenary celebration, is one moody beast of a trackโand in the best way possible. Out since July 11, the song takes no prisoners, plunging headfirst into a sonic pool of piano-driven melancholy, swirling synths, and a deliciously, hypnotic and heartfelt gothic groove.
It kicks off slow and haunting, like youโre stepping into a dim room lit only by flickering neon. Soft strums and that unmistakably earnest vocal tone guide you in, before drums thud in like distant thunder. Then come the sweeping guitar melodies and tender strings that practically cry out with emotion. Itโs storytelling delivered with elegance and edge. You feel every ounce of that emotional unraveling: the cry for help, the helplessness, and the vulnerability of being stuck in your own storm.
And letโs face it, Caligula knows their sound. With three decades under their belt and a musical legacy influenced by Ministry, Front 242, and Skinny Puppy, theyโve carved out a signature electro-goth vibe thatโs more alive than ever here. โSave Meโ reminds that this band never truly left the conversation. Theyโve just been quietly simmering until the right moment to explode again.
Which brings us to Tricenary, their 30-year milestone gig at Sydneyโs Lansdowne Hotel on August 2. With support from C54 (Chris Dubrow & James Lynch) and Rollercoaster DJs spinning 90s goth-industrial classics, the night promises to be an unmissable time warp of synths, sweat, and nostalgia. If โSave Meโ is anything to go by, Caligulaโs next chapter is a resurrection.
