Blake Red, the Chicago-born alternative rock and metal powerhouse, unleashes pure venom with her new single โScorpion,โ released August 29, 2025. Known for her unflinching honesty and fierce stage presence, Blake puts up an anthem of resistance and a warning shot against those who exploit the vulnerable. Produced by Blake herself and mixed/mastered by GRAMMY-winner Darryl Swann, the single also features drummer Tom McGeoch, while Blake handles guitar, bass, and vocals with blistering command. Serving as the lead offering from her upcoming EP Out of the Cage, set for October 3, โScorpionโ embodies her rage and resilience as she reclaims her voice after four years away from studio releases.
The track opens with a churn of distorted guitars, jagged and menacing, before Blakeโs sharp, high-pitched vocal slices through the wall of sound. The snarl in her delivery is almost like venom dripping from a fang, and the title feels like more than a metaphor. The drums crash down with intimidating force, each beat pounding like footsteps of a predator closing in, while the distorted guitar riffs dart and sting in quick, melodic strikes.
As the refrain โScorpionโ is repeated with fiery insistence, the song turns into a chant of defiance, daring predators to be unmasked. Blake gets cold in the bridge, as she whispers, โThereโs nowhere you can hide,โ sending chills down the spine menacingly, before the instruments roar back into full-throttle chaos. The final stretch is a blaze of shredding guitar and echoing vocals, and it pulses with the sting of survival and the burn of truth.
With โScorpion,โ Blake Red delivers a cathartic and unforgettably venomous song. Listen to it on Spotify.
