Shallow Thought by Ruto: Review
Multi-instrumentalist recording artist from South Central LA Oscar A. Bautista, who goes by the stage name of Ruto, is no stranger to having a diverse mix of sounds to create a surreal eclectic soundscape. After years of experimenting with a wide range of sounds both with a band and as a solo artist, and teasing the listeners with single releases for a year, he has finally released his debut album, Pan Dulce.ย ย
Shallow Thought is the third track from the album and is definitely a highlight of the diverse sound and Rutoโs influences. The song is a brilliant mix of psychedelic rock, electronic, and jazz music. It starts with a hypnotic melody played on guitar and vocals in unison accompanied by a faint hi-hat that turns into a smooth jazz tune for a while and as the drum machine starts playing an adamant beat, the jazz notes soon turn into an enchanting psychedelic melody. The wobbly guitars and synths take this vibe to a whole new level. As the opening melodies make a comeback, the song goes on full throttle on the vivid psychedelic trip. The song at its peak embracing the diversity sounds mystic and surreal with the adamant beat giving the song its eccentric charm. While being technical and complex in its composition and arrangement, the mix has a lo-fi organic vibe that further amplifies the psychedelic effect. The whole album is a no-brainer for avant-garde fans and this song would definitely intrigue you to check out the rest of the album.
