Irish R&B and soul artist Joe Lington has created a thought-provoking and socially conscious album with SHE. This album narrates a story with a moral. What’s so good about this intriguing storytelling is that it comes with soulful melodies and cinematic orchestration.
The album opens with “Pinkeen,” an engaging track that hooks you instantly with its catchy electronic grooves and sparkling drums. Lington’s soulful vocals, layered with falsetto, introduce us to the story of Pinkeen and his protagonist’s love story.
“She Episode One” unravels the story of “He” and “She with cinematic orchestration and a strong female voice. The narrative begins with the collision of two cultures and the captivating aura of “She,” drawing “He” into romance.
“Hypocrisy” stands out as a soulful French song that becomes a sensational commentary on how people use others for their assets while demeaning them and denying their impact. Back to the story, “She Episode Three” demonstrates a lack of interest in Pinkeen to solve the relationship conflicts on her own.
The successes and hard work of a woman and the support of her partner are explored in a simple yet soulful conversation between two partners in “Talking About You.” “She Episode Four” deepens the narrative deepens as “He” realizes the extent of “She’s” duplicity with her meticulously crafted exit strategy.
A collaboration with Lady FI, “What Do You Do” comes up with a duet. Her gorgeously deep and rich voice sings passionately alongside Lington’s sultry and soulful delivery.
“She Episode Five” reaches its conclusion with gentle piano and strings. The lyrics reflect on the lessons learned from the encounter with “She.” The final track, “SHE” collides all the episodes into one comprehensive narrative, summarizing the deceptive facades people create.
