Irish indie folk artist Gerr Walsh is back with “Silverfish,” a single set for release on September 19th ahead of his second album due in spring 2026. Known for his heartfelt lyricism and lush acoustics, Walsh brings indie-folk storytelling alongside modern pop sensibilities, drawing parallels with Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. Recorded with Keith Duffy on bass, Adam Marcello on drums, Max Greenwood on piano, and Naimee Coleman’s spectral backing vocals, the track is as cinematic as it is intimate.
Opening with gentle acoustic strumming, the song builds on a subtle, soft-smacking groove. Walsh’s voice enters quietly but with intent, his delivery warm and understated, as if carried by the hush of dusk. By the chorus, Coleman’s airy harmonies hover beneath his lines, lending an expectant and reassuring dreamlike lift, like waiting at a window for headlights to appear down a winding road. The music video of the song showing the car driving through the green, hilly roads and taking turns, mirrors that sense of anticipation for something better waiting at the end.
Lyrically, “Silverfish” navigates the slippery, fleeting nature of inspiration and presence. When Walsh sings, “Static signals from a secret place / trying to work out when you’ll be coming home,” it isn’t just about a person but also about the restless chase of creativity itself, forever flickering at the edges of perception. Later, when he insists, “Fill me up, help me sing again,” it reads like an invocation for renewal, one that every artist whispers when wrestling with silence. He promises that “Wherever you go, I’ll follow you,” showcasing that clinging to hope is still not too old-fashioned and is still possible in these uncertain times. Be it about a special someone or about creativity, it shows a heartfelt passion and dedication within the singer that endears as you listen to it.
Check out the music video and find yourself suspended between longing and calm as you listen to “Silverfish” by Gerr Walsh, while watching the scenes change as you ride alongside the singer.
