Sorry No Longer Cuts It by Lethia’s Natorium: Review
Pena’s band Lethia’s Natorium features an intriguing lineup that draws inspiration from artists as diverse as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Toyah, Blondie, No Doubt, Skunk Anansie, The Smiths, and Poly Styrene.
The song focuses on a past toxic relationship, and its story is built from a person’s behavior which shifts between that of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Apart from that, four studios across multiple regions and several intricate layers of work went into the making of the single “Sorry No Longer Cuts It”. Pena recorded the song’s foundation at home using a guiding vocal and a ukulele. The next step was to hand it off to Josh Elliott, who laid down the guitars and bass over Pena’s basic drum loop. After Josh’s recording was completed, Peter Voronov from Turkey was emailed the stems along with Pena’s guide vocals. When Peter wanted to add some string instruments to the tune, he recruited a friend to play the cello. After the tracks have been recorded, they returned to Pena, who in turn gives them to producer Max Read who favored Josh’s guitars over the ukulele chords and eliminated them. From roughly mixed to added drums by Karl Thompson, it all came full circle.
The reason I went on and described the whole process is that it was the attempts of different layers that made this project into a singular work of art. If you want to experience its entirety, give it a go and thank me later after you resonate hard with it!
