Swedish duo Purple Stone, composed of Johan Hansson and David Skog, take listeners on a cosmic odyssey with their second full-length album Spacetime, released October 10, 2025. Hailing from the north of Sweden, the pair have carved out a lush and hypnotic soundscape defined by analog synths, reverberating guitars, and dreamy atmospherics that blend the organic with the otherworldly. Spacetime continues their journey through space rock and psychedelic ambiance, touching on themes of exploration, curiosity, and transcendence, not without a touch of playful imagination (yes, there’s even a “giant colorful Space-Squid”). With every track, Purple Stone invites listeners to buckle up and drift through the interstellar unknown, where gravity bends and melody shimmers endlessly.
The album opens with “Come On Come On Come ON,” an electrifying invitation to launch. Sharp, thumping beats crash forward while fuzzy, shimmering guitars grind and glow in layers of distortion. The vocals glide over the mix, relaxed but soaring, like a transmission from the edge of the cosmos. The rhythm pounds with infectious energy, evoking the propulsion of a rocket and the pulse of a dancefloor under starlight.
Later, the duo slows the tempo with “Moods,” a warm, introspective interlude, like sunlight filtering through clouds. Gentle tapping percussion and soothing guitars form the backbone, while delicate strings shimmer around the edges, evoking that hazy nostalgia of late afternoons and fading skies. It’s intimate yet expansive, a lullaby for dreamers watching the horizon melt.
The title track, “Spacetime,” arrives like the album’s weightless heart. It opens with fluid, glowing synths that ripple outward before the singer’s high, husky voice enters, floating effortlessly in the mix. When the beats drop, they hit hard but rhythmically clean, propelling the song into orbit. As he croons, “Weightless feeling / Boundless space,” it’s hard not to feel untethered yourself.
With Spacetime, Purple Stone becomes the master of celestial storytelling, bringing retro, ethereal, and irresistible humaneness all in one.
