Chapell’s latest single, “Suddenly,” is here to thaw your soul with a wave of glistening nostalgia only to take you out to the sun, into the present.
Released this May 31, the song opens like a warm hug, with swirling and slow organ wails and fuzzy guitar riffs simmering before the pulsating drum beat drops. The drums thump with energy, building momentum and pumping like a heartbeat. Chapell’s voice, on the other hand, has a soulful rasp that leans into the high notes with an effortless exhilaration that shows he is singing from his heart. This way he brings anthemic vibes and retrospection altogether. He has the kind of voice that makes you want to sing along, reminiscing about days and people you thought you forgot.
Chapell is seasoned, however, as he has pushed this voice to the stages as well alongside big names. With “Suddenly,” he opens up to the opportunities before us and himself as well to feel part of something bigger.
The lyrics themselves are a journey of self-discovery. They weave between looking back at memories and realizing the need for a change. It’s relatable on a deep level, urging you to examine your path.
If you have any affinity for 80s and 90s music, and go further back to the 70s for the profundity, Alan Chapell is the man for you. He has an album, The Underground Music Show coming up so stay tuned.
