With “The Concession Stand Blitz,” Lexington’s noise-rock mischief makers Tojo Yamamoto take the glittery chaos of The Sweet’s 1973 glam-rock classic “Ballroom Blitz” and fling it straight into the mayhem of a wrestling concession stand. Released as a limited 7” vinyl, this track is a witty spectacle drenched in fuzz, humor, and rock adrenaline. The band has long thrived on irreverence and unpredictability, and here they crank the dial past red.
The song opens in a haze, guitars rumbling like an old amplifier about to blow while the drums hustle in with a raw thump. Then the reckless and unrestrained vocals burst through with wild abandon, humor stitched into every fast-paced growl, making the familiar melody sound like it’s been ripped apart and reassembled in punk-garage fashion. The guitar grinds and scrapes against the rhythm, leaning into distortion so thick it practically buzzes in your chest.
Instead of glitter balls and strobe lights, you imagine nachos flying, sodas spilling, and plastic trays clattering on sticky floors. It’s absurd, but that’s the point: Tojo Yamamoto transforms chaos into celebration, and the humor hits just as hard as the riffs.
Beneath the humor, it feels like an ode to release itself, losing control, surrendering to noise, and finding freedom in the mess. This cover is a carnival brawl in vinyl form and it’s available for you to check it out on Spotify.
